Ingredient Focus: Bentonite Clay

Just as clothes, hair styles and handbags do, skincare ingredients come in and out of fashion. One wonder ingredient I keep spying is Bentonite Clay, a cleansing ingredient that supposedly boasts many skincare and healing properties. I learnt about this through working with skincare maven Antonia Burrell, who uses it in her NEW Mask Supreme 7-in-1 (which is well worth checking out, by the by). Organic Beauty Week Fave: Pink’s Boutique Organic Pedicure Set

I’m a little late to the Organic Beauty Week party, but since September is Organic Beauty Month, I’m being a trend-setter (ahem) and keeping the theme going for the rest of my reviews.

Introducing STEAMCREAM

There is little I prefer doing than blogging from my super cosy bed with my fairy lights on (they are in the shape of beach huts it’s amazing). I’m so glad I’ve finally managed some down-time… even if it is at half past ten on a Sunday night! Apologies for my sparse reviews, it really isn’t because I don’t love you all, it’s simply because life is pretty cray right now, but I promise to up my game sooner or later. It is in these times of desperation that I call on my favourite multi-tasking beauty products, and STEAMCREAM has got to be my favourite of all time.

STEAMCREAM in Koku

Now, I want to be clear upfront and say that I found out about STEAMCREAM by working with them, but I have just fallen in love. The ethos, ingredients and design are all right up my street, and I just can’t get enough. It’s also worth noting that I buy my own and all thoughts are 100% my own, too!

STEAMCREAM (RRP £12.95) is a multi-purpose moisturiser for the hands, body and face, and gets its name from its unique method of creation. To make such a beautiful, lightweight cream, STEAMCREAM fuses its ingredients together with a shot of steam (hence the name), which helps to bind the glorious cocoa butter, rose absolute, lavender, neroli, sweet almond oil, orange flower water, jojoba oil, chamomile blue and oatmeal infusion together; keeping a ‘loose’ consistency to help the skin absorb the cream. As you can see, the cream packs some incredible natural ingredients into their adorable limited edition tins, making the formula super nutritious for your skin.

STEAMCREAM makes a fantastic facial moisturiser, which is how I prefer to use the cream. I use a blob the size of my fingertip for my face and neck, and although for my picky skin there’s a risk of even this cream being a little heavy, if I use just a smidge then my face really, really loves it. Using it sparingly, my skin drinks it all up overnight, and I’m always left with a radiant glow in the morning. It’s such a great product for keeping your complexion even, and is perfect for all skin types, but sensitive/combination skin in particular as it helps to regulate the oil production of your skin.

You can of course also use STEAMCREAM for your hands and body, for which it is fantastic, but is still a little heavy for lil’ old me. If you have really dry skin I would 100% recommend this, and it is fab for eczema or psoriasis suffers as the oatmeal infusion contains avenanthramides, which is a type of antibiotic produced by the ingredient which adds to the soothing, anti-inflammatory effect of the cream.

One last thing about this cream that needs a mention is the packaging. You all must know by now that my love of packaging is out of control and costs me a lot of money, but STEAMCREAM is just a whole other story. Each month STEAMCREAM bring out a host of new limited edition tin designs to take your fancy. From florals and star signs all the way to disney designs, there is definitely something for everyone. Just another reason that this wonder product is perfect for gifting. My favourite designs are Shu and Koku (pictured above), but there are a million and one I wish I could get my hands on… I just don’t think I could use the cream quick enough! The aluminium tins are absolutely perfect for re-using once they’re empty though, and I plan to use mine for hair clips and ties!

Have you used STEAMCREAM before? What are your favourite designs?

Setting the Scene with a touch of Romance…

Now that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, it’s definitely time to start making plans on how to make the big day extra special, whether it’s with a childhood sweetheart or a brand new partner.

There is something perfectly romantic about how candle light softens our complexion and gives us that beautiful glow, which makes candles the ultimate scene setter for a romantic evening with your loved one. I am excited to introduce Romance, the brand new candle from the Isle of Wight Natural Candle Company (IWNCC).

Anyone that follows me on Twitter will know that I’m a huge candle fan, I always have one burning, and they are always from the IWNCC. This is not only because they are a local business, but it’s also because the natural fragrances set in the soy wax somehow always manage to soothe my senses and leave me with a distinct sense of tranquility. I was so excited when they released their new fragrance, Romance, that I popped out for one right away! Here’s what I think…

Romance CandlePersian rose, ylang ylang and a hint of black pepper make up the sensual fragrance in this new candle, and I have got to say… it is incredible. There is something so precious and thoughtful about this combination that just makes it the perfect balance of soft floral fragrance with just a slight hint of masculinity, making it a failsafe gift for your Valentine this February. I truly believe that this candle would make an fantastic alternative to a bunch of flowers, as it is simply a gift that keeps on giving, leaving a lasting memory of your special evening!

All components of this gorgeous fragrance have great aromatherapeutic properties, which all contribute to setting the scene for your Valentntine’s Day…. Rose is well known for it’s natural stress relieving properties, and also works hard as an anti depressant, helping you to feel at ease on your date night (I hope)! It is also known for its aphrodisiac effect, need I say more? Ylang Ylang is known for its ability to aid relaxation and relieve any stresses you are carrying. To top this off, the black pepper gives an extra positive lift to your mood, leaving you calm and prepared for the evening ahead.

What have you got planned for Valentine’s Day this year? Will the Romance candle be making an appearance for you, too?

Dead Sea Spa Magik Duo

Dead Sea Spa MagikI absolutely love trying out new brands (in case you couldn’t tell)! So when I was sent some Dead Sea Spa Magik products I was completely overjoyed as this is a brand I’ve had my eye on for a while.

Although I’m an Islander, I went to a sixth form college on (what we call) the mainland, so I got to go to super exotic shops like Debenhams (seriously, the Island doesn’t have a department store it’s terrible) so needless to say I went shopping in every given opportunity! I was once pulled over by a sales assistant with some Dead Sea Spa Magik salt scrub, who told me and my friend it would make our skin ridiculously soft… we were sold! We tested it out on our hands, and genuinely couldn’t beleive how silky smooth our skin was! Sadly, on our measley weekend job wages we simply didn’t have the funds for the products, and I have never bought any from the brand since, as I don’t think it’s available on Isle.

I was kindly sent quite a few Sea Spa Magik & Spa Find products to try out, but will focus on the Refreshing Bath Shower Gel and Silky Smooth Body Lotion first of all! Read on to hear my thoughts.

Refreshing Bath Shower Gel

Refreshing Bath Shower GelSo, my first thought about this shower gel…. It’s blue!! Definitely something you don’t ever expect whilst using natural cosmetics regularly. I love the fact that this product is multi-purpose – it can be used as a bath foam or shower gel. I’m a shower person, and have been regularly using this product for a couple of weeks now. The benefits listed on the product are: ‘helps to maintain skin’s elasticity and texture, relaxes your body and mind, deeply moisturises and rejuvenates the appearance of skin’ – that’s not far off! I really like the texture of this product, as it is thick and creates a rich, creamy foam, meaning it doesn’t feel drying or ineffective. After using this product your skin does feel moisturised and soft – exactly as desired, so it really does do what it says on the tin. The only thing I’m not so keen on is the smell, and that is a great shame. I absolutely love using products that smell natural and herbal, but although this product has added perfume and flower waters, it still smells a little strange to me, but each to their own! It might smell delicious to you.

It would be an amazing product to keep in the shower for the whole family to use – it comes in a huge bottle (as you can see it’s a 40% extra free product) and will last for ages, which is definitely a perk as it only costs £7.55 for a 350ml bottle from Holland and Barrett.

Silky Smooth Body Lotion

Silky Smooth Body LotionAnyone that knows me or reads my blog regularly will know I don’t get on well with moisturisers of any description. For whatever reason my skin just refuses to absorb pretty much anything, which means I never ever buy any because I’ve just lost hope (cue violins), but this just makes it even better when I get sent some unexpectedly and test it out. I was pretty much astonished when this body lotion sunk in pretty much instantly, and I was able to use it in the day time! I think I’m coming to the conclusion that I’m getting older, and my skin is becoming a little more accepting of moisturising products, but it’s always good to have a revelation such as this!

The body lotion is really really light, but a little thicker than a ‘milk’, which smooths onto my skin effortlessly and sinks in very quickly. It’s perfect to use after your shower with the Refreshing Bath Shower Gel as it just tops off your routine, and keeps your skin ‘Silky Smooth’ as the product claims! I would definitely recommend this product, as it is suitable for all skin types and is paraben free with UVB protection. The reviews on Holland & Barrett say that it makes a fantastic after sun – I’ll definitely be putting this to test in the summer!

Again, this product has been formulated with the potent extracts from the dead sea combined with organic ingredients and no parabens – wonderful! Both products contain ‘Harmonised Water’ which has been de-ionised to remove even the smallest impurities and makes room for the added minerals.

Have you ever used Dead Sea Spa Magik products? I’d love to know your favourites 🙂
